Back pain is a common complaint for many people. For some people, it greatly affects their quality of living and limits their activities. When someone has back pain, it is important for them to find a way in which to relieve the back pain they are experiencing. One key thing is keep moving. Doctors recommend that people with back pain spend less time lying around and more time moving. While most people might think the opposite is true, moving can actually keep the muscles and joints limber.
Another recommendation from doctors is for back pain sufferers to critically look at their current mattress. Many mattresses do not provide the appropriate amount of support to relieve pressure on the back. One of the best type of mattresses for back pain sufferers are memory foam mattresses. Made from a special substance known as memory foam, this type of mattress is able to detect changes in body heat. As a result, the mattress becomes softer in places where the body is warmer. Typically, areas of pain will be the warmest parts of one’s body. This provides additional support for the painful back.
Exercise is another way to help alleviate back pain. Again, this might seem contrary to what most people think. By excerising, those suffering from back pain are able to get out of the sitting position and move their body in an upright position. This actually puts less strain on the back. Keep in mind, however, to avoid any type of activity that may cause pain.
Braces are often used in the hopes of helping reduce back pain. However, the reverse is true. While braces can be worn for short periods of time such as 15 minutes, they should not be worn all the time. If a brace is worn all the time, a person’s core strength will actually decrease.
